SplitNest — Privacy Policy
Effective date: 18 April 2026
Last updated: 18 April 2026
SplitNest ("SplitNest", "we", "us", or "our") provides a mobile and web application that helps people living together track shared rent, bills, and household expenses (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have.
By creating an account or using SplitNest, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Who we are (Data Controller)
SplitNest is operated by Etest Tech Hub.
- Contact email: info@etestweb.com
- Support email: info@etestweb.com
- Website: https://www.etestweb.com/splitnest-policy
For privacy questions, data requests, or to exercise any right described below, email info@etestweb.com. We aim to respond within 30 days.
2. Information we collect
We collect only the information needed to operate SplitNest. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
2.1 Information you provide
| Category | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account information | Name, email address, password (hashed), profile photo (optional) | Create and secure your account |
| Household data | House name, member nicknames, invite codes | Run your shared household |
| Financial activity data | Bills, amounts, descriptions, splits, payments, currency, due dates, recurring schedules | Core app functionality |
| Preferences | Default currency, country, language, reminder settings, notification preferences | Personalise the Service |
| Communications | Messages you send to support | Respond to your request |
We do not collect bank account numbers, card numbers, or payment credentials. SplitNest tracks who owes whom — it does not move money.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Device & technical data: Device model, OS version, app version, language, time zone, crash logs, anonymised diagnostic data
- Usage data: Pages opened, features used, error events (no message content)
- Identifiers: A randomly generated user ID and an installation ID. We do not use advertising identifiers (e.g., Android Advertising ID / IDFA).
2.3 Information from third parties
If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email, and profile photo from that provider as permitted by you. We do not receive your password.
2.4 Information we do not collect
We do not collect: precise GPS location, contacts, SMS messages, call logs, photos/media outside what you upload, microphone audio, health data, or biometric data.
3. How we use your information
We use information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service (display balances, send reminders, sync data across devices).
- Authenticate users and protect accounts (sign-in, password reset, fraud prevention).
- Send transactional communications (bill reminders, account notices, security alerts).
- Respond to support requests.
- Diagnose crashes and improve performance using aggregated diagnostic data.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not use your data to train third-party advertising or marketing models.
4. Legal bases (GDPR / UK GDPR users)
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on:
- Contract — to provide the Service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and improve features.
- Consent — for optional push/email reminders, where required.
- Legal obligation — to comply with applicable law.
You may withdraw consent at any time in app settings or by emailing info@etestweb.com.
5. How we share information
We share information only in the limited cases below. We never sell personal data.
5.1 With other members of your household
Bills, splits, payments, member names, and avatars are visible to every member of a house you join. This is the core function of the app.
5.2 With service providers (processors)
We use vetted third parties strictly to operate the Service. They process data on our behalf under contract: Supabase (database, auth, storage), hosting/CDN providers, email delivery, push notifications (APNs/FCM), and crash reporting.
5.3 For legal reasons
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of SplitNest, our users, or the public.
5.4 Business transfers
If SplitNest is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred. We will notify you and the receiving entity will be bound by this Policy or an equivalent.
6. International data transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own (including the United States and the European Union). When we transfer personal data out of the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we use appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. Data retention
- Account data: while your account is active.
- Household and bill data: while at least one member of the house has an active account.
- Diagnostic logs: up to 90 days.
- Backups: rotated within 30 days of deletion.
- Legal/financial records (if any): as required by law.
When you delete your account (see Section 9), we delete or irreversibly anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep it for legal reasons.
8. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards including TLS encryption in transit, encryption at rest for our databases, hashed passwords (never stored in plain text), Row-Level Security so users can only access their own households, and access controls and audit logging for staff.
No system is 100% secure. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on your location (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws), you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your account and data ("right to erasure").
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@etestweb.com from the email address on your account. We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request.
9.1 How to delete your SplitNest account and data
You can delete your account at any time:
In the app:
- Open SplitNest.
- Go to Profile → Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm. Your account and personal data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
Via the web (no app required — Google Play compliance):
- Visit our account deletion page and submit the form, or
- Email info@etestweb.com from your registered email with the subject line "Delete my SplitNest account".
What gets deleted: your profile, name, email, avatar, device tokens, preferences, and any households you are the sole member of.
What may be retained: anonymised aggregate analytics, and shared bills/payments in households where other members remain (your name will be replaced with "Removed member"). Backups are purged within 30 days.
10. Children's privacy
SplitNest is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, email info@etestweb.com and we will delete it.
11. Third-party links
The Service may link to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review their policies separately.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in app and/or by email and update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after the change takes effect means you accept the updated Policy.
