Post UTME past questions: how screening works and how to use them

How Post UTME screening works at UNILAG, UI, UNN, OAU and FUTA, how to use Post UTME past questions without memorising, and why leaked papers are a scam.

Post UTME past questions show you the style, level and topics a university used in its own screening test, so you can practise at the right pace. Use them to find weak topics and rehearse timing, not to memorise answers. Check whether your school sets a test at all, because some only screen your UTME score and O level results.

    Key points

    • Screening varies by school. In 2026, UNILAG ran an online aptitude test, UI ran a CBT, and OAU held in person screening. UNN's notice described online registration and document uploads without mentioning a test.
    • Your school's own notice is the only rule that counts. Read it on the university's site, not on a blog.
    • Past questions are for practice, not prediction. The same questions rarely come back word for word.
    • Leaked questions for sale are a scam. WAEC, JAMB and OAU have all warned about people selling fakes or "help".
    • My app, Etest CBT, has a Post UTME practice option next to JAMB UTME and WASSCE / NECO. Get it on the App Store or Google Play.

How does Post UTME screening work?

Each university runs its own screening after the UTME, for candidates who picked it as first choice and reached its cut off. Some set a computer based or online test. Others screen your UTME score and O level results, and some do both. The format, dates and subjects change by school and by year.

Here's what five well known universities announced for the 2026/2027 session, from their own pages or major outlets.

University What the 2026/2027 screening looked like Dates Source
UNILAG Online screening with an online aptitude test; UTME 200 or above; skipping the test rules you out Test 27 to 31 July 2026 UNILAG notice, 9 June 2026
    UI Post UTME as a CBT Exam 27 to 29 July 2026 Legit.ng, 16 June 2026
UNN Online registration with document uploads; UTME 160 or above; the notice I read named no test Registration 15 July to 5 August 2026 UNN Registrar notice
OAU In person screening, attendance compulsory 25 to 30 September 2026, moved from early September Legit.ng, 15 September 2026
FUTA Online registration; UTME 180 or above; the report did not describe a test Registration 1 June to 3 July 2026 Myschool News, 31 May 2026

Two things stand out. Dates move, as OAU's did. And the same school can change its format from one year to the next, so last year's experience from an older cousin isn't a guarantee.

Are Post UTME past questions worth using?

Yes, if your school sets a test. They show the kind of question the school asks, how hard it is and how much time you get. They won't tell you this year's questions, because schools set new papers. If your school doesn't test at all, skip them.

My view: for most candidates, JAMB practice is most of the Post UTME work, because both test secondary school subjects you've already studied. So your JAMB practice isn't wasted.

Where past questions earn their keep is in three places:

    • Style. Some schools love calculation questions, others lean on definitions and comprehension.
    • Speed. A short test with few questions punishes slow starts.
    • Gaps. Questions you can't answer point to topics you skipped for the UTME.

How do I use Post UTME past questions without memorising them?

Treat each paper as a test of a topic, not a list of answers. Time yourself, mark it, and for every miss write down the topic and the rule behind it. Then read that topic and do fresh questions on it. If you remember the answer but not the reason, you haven't learnt it.

    Here's how I'd do it:

    1. Do a paper cold, timed. No notes. This shows where you really are.
    2. Mark it and sort the misses. Didn't know it, knew it but slipped, or ran out of time. Each needs a different fix.
    3. Read the topic, not the answer. Go back to your textbook or a study guide for each "didn't know it".
    4. Do new questions on the same topic. UTME or WAEC questions work fine for this.
    5. Redo the paper a week later. If you score much higher only because you remember the options, swap to a paper you haven't seen.

I covered the error log idea in more depth in how to use JAMB past questions without wasting them. It works the same for Post UTME.

What should I practise at each stage?

It depends on where you are in the season. Before your UTME result, JAMB practice is your Post UTME practice. Once your school publishes its format, switch to that school's style and timing. In the final week, do full timed papers and sleep properly.

    Stage What to practise Why
From now until the UTME JAMB past questions in your four subjects, timed Most Post UTME topics are the same syllabus
After your UTME result Your school's last screening notice, and its past questions if it set a test Find out the format before you plan
Once the new notice is out Timed papers at the school's length; any mock the school offers UNILAG, for one, ran mock exams before its 2026 test
Two weeks before Weak topics from your error log, then mixed timed sets Fix what costs marks
The last three days One light timed set a day, documents ready, route to the venue planned Rest beats a late cram

The 2027 UTME is proposed for 15 to 25 March 2027 in the Federal Ministry of Education's harmonised timetable. It's a proposal, so wait for JAMB's own announcement. If you're sitting a JAMB mock first, JAMB mock vs real UTME explains what the mock can and can't tell you.

Should I pay for leaked Post UTME questions?

No. I know of no legitimate seller of a university's unreleased screening questions. In 2026, WAEC warned about rogue websites selling fake papers in its name, JAMB called claims of score inflation false and criminal, and OAU told candidates to ignore Post UTME agents and use only its official site and verified pages.

What you get for your money is usually one of three things: old past questions dressed up as new, a made up paper, or nothing at all. The worst part is the time. A student who spends the final week memorising a fake paper has spent it not studying.

Past question booklets sold openly as past questions are a different thing, and they can be useful. The test is simple. If the seller says "this year's questions", walk away.

How does Etest CBT help with Post UTME practice?

I built Etest CBT for the whole Nigerian exam season, not only JAMB. When you set up an exam, you choose JAMB UTME, Post UTME or WASSCE / NECO, and the app draws questions only from past papers of that type. A Post UTME question is never passed off as a JAMB one.

The Post UTME papers in the app cover a range of science, arts and social science subjects, listed when you start an exam. For English I'd use the JAMB papers, which follow the same syllabus. Every question has an explanation. You can work in study mode with instant answers, or sit timed exams with a navigator and flags, then see your score and a subject breakdown. The study plan pushes your weak topics back into the week, and it all works offline once installed.

Two honest limits. The app doesn't hold every university's papers, so it won't replace your own school's past questions if it sets a test. And it's an independent app, not linked to JAMB or any university. More on the app in what Etest CBT is, on the Etest CBT page, and for the school exams in WAEC CBT practice.

    Frequently asked questions

Do all universities write Post UTME?

No. In 2026, UNILAG ran an online aptitude test and UI ran a CBT, while UNN's screening notice described online registration and document uploads without naming a test. Each school decides its own format every year, so read your school's current notice on its official website before you prepare.

Where can I get Post UTME past questions?

Start with your own school's official website, for its current notice and any practice material or mock it offers. Then practise in Etest CBT, which carries Post UTME questions in several subjects. Buy past questions, never "this year's" questions. If your school doesn't set a test, spend the time on your UTME score and O level documents instead.

    Are Post UTME questions repeated?

It's unlikely word for word. Schools set new papers, though topics and styles tend to repeat because they test the same school subjects. That's why past questions help with topics, pace and style, and why memorising answers is a poor bet.

How many Post UTME past questions should I practise?

There's no magic number. A few full papers done properly, timed and reviewed by topic, are worth more than dozens skimmed. Once your misses are mostly slips rather than gaps in knowledge, you're ready to switch to mixed timed sets.

Is Post UTME CBT or paper based?

It depends on the school. UI described its 2026/2027 Post UTME as a CBT, and UNILAG ran an online test. Others screen without a test or hold in person sessions. Practise on a screen anyway, since the 2026 tests I found ran on computers or online.

    How I wrote this

On 4 November 2026 I read UNILAG's and UNN's own screening notices, and reports in Legit.ng and Myschool News for UI, OAU and FUTA, plus WAEC's August 2026 warning in BusinessDay and the Federal Ministry's proposed 2027 timetable. I didn't verify each school's subjects, question counts or scoring formula, so I left them out. The app details come from Etest CBT's own source code. The practice method is my own.
