Quit soda and habit health
Which app helps you stop drinking soda, Coke and Fanta?
The app to stop drinking soda, Coke, Fanta and other fizzy drinks, how to use it from day one, and how it compares with Quitzilla, I Am Sober and NoFizz.

The app to stop drinking soda that I'd point you to first is FizzFree, because it was built for exactly this: Coke, Fanta, Sprite, diet soda, malt drinks and energy drinks, all in one daily check-in. I made it, so weigh that. You can stop at once or cut down slowly.
Key points
- FizzFree is made only for soda: regular, diet and zero soda, malt drinks and energy drinks. I made it.
- Pick your swap drink before you delete anything from your fridge. That one step matters more than any app.
- Choose stop at once or the Taper Dial, which lowers a weekly allowance step by step.
- Use Ride the Fizz, a 90 second exercise, when a craving hits.
- Quitzilla suits several habits, I Am Sober suits alcohol and community, NoFizz is a 100 day program on iPhone.
Which app can I use to stop drinking Coke, Fanta and other fizzy drinks?
FizzFree: Quit Soda Tracker. It counts every kind of soda in one daily check-in, so a Coke at lunch and a Fanta at 4 pm land in the same place. It tracks sugar and money kept, and caffeine skipped for colas and energy drinks. No account is needed, and your data stays on your phone.
That last bit matters more than people think. You shouldn't have to hand over an email address to admit you had two cans yesterday.
Version 2.0 adds:
- The Glass and the Bubble Monster. A clean day pops bubbles in a glass. A fizz day grows a Bubble Monster, and calm days shrink it again. No streak to lose.
- Fizz Map. You name the moments you usually reach for a can, and it nudges you 10 minutes before.
- Swap Shelf. Your own replacements, plus local swaps for your country.
- Sugar Jar. The sugar you didn't drink and the money you kept, in your own currency.
Version 2.0 has been on Google Play since 27 October 2026, in 28 languages. iPhone 2.0 is in App Store review, so the App Store has version 1.5, with a streak, savings and a craving timer, until then. See FizzFree, or get it on Google Play or the App Store.
How do you set the app up so it works?
Set it up around your hardest moment of the day, not your easy ones. Pick a swap drink first, name the time you usually crack a can, and decide between stopping at once and tapering before day one. Five minutes of setup saves you from deciding everything at 3 pm with a craving.
- Pick the swap drink. Put it on the Swap Shelf. In the UK the app suggests sparkling water, no added sugar squash or a cuppa. In India, nimbu pani or chaas. In Nigeria, zobo without sugar or coconut water. More in what to drink instead of soda.
- Map the 3 pm moment. Most people have one. Add it to the Fizz Map and the nudge arrives at 2:50, before the vending machine gets you.
- Choose your pace. Stop at once, or set the Taper Dial.
- Know your craving tool. When it hits, open Ride the Fizz. Hold a finger down, breathe slowly for 90 seconds, then decide.
- Watch the Sugar Jar. USDA FoodData Central lists 39 g of sugar in a 12 oz Coke. The NHS limit for adults is 30 g of added sugars a day. One can is already over.
Should you quit cold turkey or cut down slowly?
Either works, and it depends on how much you drink now. If it's one can a day, stopping at once is usually fine. If it's four cans of cola, cutting down over a few weeks is gentler, because colas carry caffeine and a sudden stop can bring headaches.
Coca-Cola's caffeine page lists 34 mg in a 12 oz can of Coke, and no caffeine in Sprite or Fanta. So a Fanta habit is sugar and routine. A cola habit adds caffeine.
The FDA advises cutting caffeine gradually and says withdrawal isn't dangerous, just unpleasant. A review of caffeine withdrawal studies by Juliano and Griffiths found symptoms usually start 12 to 24 hours after the last dose and last 2 to 9 days. Many people report headaches for a few days.
That's what the Taper Dial is for. You set a weekly allowance, say 14 cans, and lower it a step each week. My honest take: most people who "fail" at cold turkey didn't fail at all. They picked the wrong pace. The caffeine withdrawal timeline has more on what the first week feels like.
Which app fits you?
FizzFree fits you if soda is the habit. A general quit app fits you if soda is one of several things you're cutting, or if you want other people around you while you do it. Here's how the four apps people ask about most compare, from each one's own store listing.
| App | Made for | What stands out | Phones |
|---|---|---|---|
| FizzFree: Quit Soda Tracker | Soda only: regular, diet, malt and energy drinks | Taper Dial or stop at once, caffeine and sugar tracking, Ride the Fizz, Fizz Map, Swap Shelf, 28 languages, no account | Android 2.0; iPhone 2.0 in review |
| Quitzilla | Any habit, several at once | Time and money saved, rewards from money saved | iPhone and Android |
| I Am Sober | Alcohol and other addictions | Daily pledge, triggers, milestones, community | iPhone and Android |
| NoFizz: Quit Soda Now | Soda | 100 day guided program, daily checkup, exercises | iPhone only |
Cutting alcohol or smoking too? Quitzilla keeps every habit in one place. Want a community? I Am Sober has one and FizzFree doesn't. For seven apps side by side, see the quit soda apps I compared.
What happens in the first week?
The first three days are usually the hardest. If your drink has caffeine, expect a dull headache or tiredness for a few days. If it's sugar only, the pull is mostly habit: the time of day, the meal, the shop on the way home. By the end of week one, most people find the craving shorter.
Keep the swap drink cold. Use Ride the Fizz every time, even when you think you'll give in. Sometimes you won't. And log a slip if it happens; the Bubble Monster shrinks again on calm days.
The weeks after that are in what happens when you stop drinking soda, and the science of the pull is in is soda addictive.
Frequently asked questions
I want to stop drinking fanta and coke and carbonated drinks which app can I use?
Use FizzFree: Quit Soda Tracker, the app I made for exactly this. It counts Fanta, Coke and every other soda in one daily check-in, tracks sugar, caffeine and money kept, and lets you stop at once or taper with the Taper Dial. It's on Android and iPhone, with no account.
Is there an app to quit Coke?
Yes. FizzFree tracks regular Coke, Diet Coke and Coke Zero, including the caffeine you skip. Quitzilla can also count days without Coke, though it's built for any habit. If Coke is your only drink, I wrote a plan in how to stop drinking Coke.
Help me cut down on fizzy drinks, is there an app for that?
FizzFree's Taper Dial is built for cutting down. You set a weekly allowance of fizzy drinks and lower it step by step, so you don't have to stop on day one. UK swaps like sparkling water or no added sugar squash sit on the Swap Shelf. See also how to quit Fanta and fizzy drinks.
How do I stop drinking cold drinks?
Pick one swap you already like, such as nimbu pani or chaas, and keep it cold. Then notice your cold drink moment, often after lunch, and plan for it. FizzFree's Fizz Map nudges you 10 minutes before that moment, and Ride the Fizz helps you get through a craving.
How do I stop drinking soda and energy drinks at the same time?
Track both in one place and cut the energy drinks more slowly, since they usually carry more caffeine. FizzFree counts soda and energy drinks in the same check-in and shows the caffeine skipped. My notes on quitting Monster and Red Bull go into the energy drink side.
How I wrote this
I wrote this on 29 October 2026. I made FizzFree, so I'm biased, and I've said where the other apps fit better. FizzFree details come from the app and its Google Play listing. The other apps are described from their store listings, read on 25 October 2026; I did not install them. Sugar and caffeine numbers come from USDA FoodData Central, Coca-Cola's caffeine page, the NHS, the FDA and the Juliano and Griffiths review. Coca-Cola, Coke, Fanta, Sprite and the other brand names belong to their owners, and I have no link with them.
This is general information, not medical or veterinary advice. If you drink a lot of caffeine, are pregnant or have diabetes, talk to your doctor before you change what you drink.
