Question 1. Choose the option nearest in meaning to the word in capitals: The manager was ADAMANT about the deadline.

A: firm. Adamant means refusing to change your mind, so firm is closest.
Question 2. Choose the option opposite in meaning to the word in capitals: The witness gave a CANDID account.

B: evasive. Candid means open and frank. Its opposite is evasive, which means avoiding a straight answer.
Question 3. Neither the teacher nor the students ___ in the hall.

B: were. With neither ... nor, the verb agrees with the nearer subject. Students is plural, so were.
